How To Make A Full Size Bed Frame

Building a full size bed frame is a great way to save money and get a custom piece of furniture that matches your bedroom decor. It is not a difficult project, and can be completed in a weekend with the right tools and materials.

To build a full size bed frame, you will need the following materials:

4 pieces of 2x4 lumber, cut to 84 inches long
4 pieces of 2x4 lumber, cut to 54 inches long
1 piece of plywood, cut to 54 inches by 84 inches
4 corner brackets
16 wood screws
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Paint or stain (optional)

Once you have gathered your materials, follow these steps to build your bed frame:

Assemble the side rails. Take two of the 84-inch long 2x4s and two of the 54-inch long 2x4s. Apply wood glue to the ends of the 54-inch long 2x4s, and then attach them to the 84-inch long 2x4s to form a rectangle. Secure the joints with wood screws.
Assemble the headboard and footboard. Take the remaining two 84-inch long 2x4s and attach them to the top and bottom of the plywood to form a headboard and footboard. Secure the joints with wood screws.
Attach the side rails to the headboard and footboard. Place the side rails on the inside of the headboard and footboard, and then attach them with wood screws.
Reinforce the joints. To make the bed frame more sturdy, reinforce the joints with corner brackets. Attach the corner brackets to the inside corners of the frame with wood screws.
Sand and finish the bed frame. Sand the bed frame to smooth out any rough edges. You can then paint or stain the bed frame to match your bedroom decor.
