How To Build A King Size Platform Bed

Building a king size platform bed is a great way to add a touch of style and sophistication to your bedroom. It is also a relatively easy project that can be completed in a weekend. With the right tools and materials, you can build a platform bed that is sturdy, stylish, and affordable.

Materials:

4x4 lumber (8 feet long)
2x4 lumber (8 feet long)
3/4-inch plywood (4x8 feet)
1x4 lumber (for trim)
Wood screws
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Stain or paint (optional)

Tools:

Circular saw
Drill
Screwdriver
Clamps
Sanding block
Measuring tape

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut the lumber

Use the circular saw to cut the 4x4 and 2x4 lumber to the following lengths:

4x4 lumber: 4 pieces at 8 feet long, 4 pieces at 30 inches long
2x4 lumber: 12 pieces at 8 feet long, 4 pieces at 72 inches long, 4 pieces at 30 inches long

Step 2: Assemble the frame

Use the wood screws to assemble the frame of the platform bed. First, attach the 30-inch 4x4 pieces to the inside of the 8-foot 4x4 pieces, forming two rectangles that are 72 inches long by 80 inches wide. Then, attach the 8-foot 2x4 pieces to the inside of the rectangles, spacing them evenly apart.

Step 3: Add the plywood deck

Place the plywood sheet on top of the frame and secure it with the wood screws. Make sure that the plywood is flush with the edges of the frame.

Step 4: Add the trim

Use the 1x4 lumber to trim the edges of the platform bed. Cut the 1x4 pieces to length and miter the corners. Attach the trim to the bed frame with the wood screws.

Step 5: Sand and finish

Sand the entire surface of the platform bed to smooth out any rough edges. Then, stain or paint the bed to your desired finish.

Tips:

Use a level to make sure that the frame is level before attaching the plywood deck.
Use clamps to hold the pieces together while you are assembling the frame.
