How To Build A Queen Size Bed Frame

Building a queen-size bed frame is a great way to save money and have a custom piece of furniture. The process is not difficult, but it does require some time and effort. With the right tools and materials, you can build a sturdy and stylish bed frame that will last for years.

Materials:

8 pieces of 2x4 lumber, cut to 84 inches long
4 pieces of 2x4 lumber, cut to 60 inches long
1 piece of plywood, cut to 60x84 inches
12 wood screws, 3 inches long
12 wood screws, 2 inches long
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Paint or stain (optional)

Circular saw or miter saw
Drill
Countersink bit
Measuring tape
Level
Clamps
Hammer

Instructions:

Step 1: Assemble the side rails

Lay two of the 84-inch 2x4s parallel to each other, 60 inches apart. Place two of the 60-inch 2x4s perpendicular to the first two, 24 inches from the ends. Secure the joints with 3-inch wood screws. Repeat this process to create the other side rail.

Step 2: Assemble the headboard and footboard

Lay two of the 84-inch 2x4s parallel to each other, 60 inches apart. Place two of the 60-inch 2x4s perpendicular to the first two, 12 inches from the ends. Secure the joints with 3-inch wood screws. Repeat this process to create the footboard.

Step 3: Attach the side rails to the headboard and footboard

Stand the headboard upright and place one of the side rails against the inside edge. Align the top of the side rail with the top of the headboard and secure it with 2-inch wood screws. Repeat this process to attach the other side rail to the headboard. Do the same to attach the side rails to the footboard.

Step 4: Attach the plywood to the frame

Place the plywood on top of the frame and align the edges. Secure the plywood to the frame with 2-inch wood screws, spaced evenly around the perimeter.

Step 5: Sand and finish

Sand the entire bed frame to remove any rough edges or splinters. You can then paint or stain the bed frame to match your décor.
