How To Make A King Size Platform Bed

A platform bed is a bed frame that is raised off the ground, usually on legs. It can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and upholstery. Materials You Will Need:

8 (2x4)x8ft lumber
4 (2x4)x6ft lumber
2 (2x4)x4ft lumber
1 sheet of 3/4-inch plywood (4x8ft)
Wood screws
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Stain or paint (optional)

Tools You Will Need:

Circular saw
Drill
Screwdriver
Clamps
Level
Tape measure
Pencil

Step 1: Cut the Lumber

Cut the following pieces of lumber using a circular saw:

8 (2x4)x8ft lumber into 4 pieces at 76 inches each
4 (2x4)x6ft lumber into 4 pieces at 80 inches each
2 (2x4)x4ft lumber into 4 pieces at 38 inches each

Step 2: Assemble the Frame

Assemble the frame by screwing the 8-foot pieces of lumber together at the corners using wood screws. Make sure that the frame is square by measuring the diagonals and making sure that they are equal. Attach the 6-foot pieces of lumber to the inside of the frame, parallel to the 8-foot pieces, using wood screws. These will act as the side rails of the bed.

Step 3: Attach the Slats

Cut the 3/4-inch plywood into 8 pieces at 72 inches each. These will be the slats that support the mattress. Attach the slats to the frame using wood screws, spacing them evenly apart. Make sure that the slats are flush with the top of the frame.

Step 4: Sand and Finish

Sand the entire bed frame using sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges. You can then stain or paint the bed frame to match your décor. Allow the finish to dry completely before using the bed.
