A king-size bed frame is a great way to add a touch of luxury to your bedroom. It can also be a great way to save money, as you can build your own bed frame for a fraction of the cost of buying one. If you're handy with tools and have a little bit of time, building your own king-size bed frame is a great project.

Materials You'll Need

To build a king-size bed frame, you'll need the following materials:

  • 8 pieces of 2x6 lumber, each cut to 8 feet long
  • 4 pieces of 2x4 lumber, each cut to 6 feet long
  • 1 piece of 1/2-inch plywood, cut to 6 feet by 8 feet
  • 16 wood screws, 2 inches long
  • 8 wood screws, 1 inch long
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or stain (optional)

Tools You'll Need

In addition to the materials listed above, you'll also need the following tools:

  • Circular saw
  • Drill
  • Countersink bit
  • Hammer
  • Nail gun (optional)
  • Clamps
  • Level

Instructions

Step 1: Assemble the side rails.

Take two of the 2x6 boards and place them parallel to each other, 6 feet apart. Apply wood glue to the inside edge of each board, and then clamp them together. Drill two pilot holes through the boards, and then drive in two 2-inch wood screws. Repeat this process to assemble the other side rail.

Step 2: Assemble the headboard and footboard.

Take two of the 2x6 boards and place them parallel to each other, 6 feet apart. Apply wood glue to the inside edge of each board, and then clamp them together. Drill two pilot holes through the boards, and then drive in two 2-inch wood screws. Repeat this process to assemble the other headboard and footboard.

Step 3: Attach the side rails to the headboard and footboard.

Place the side rails on the inside of the headboard and footboard, and then clamp them together. Drill two pilot holes through the side rails and into the headboard and footboard, and then drive in two 2-inch wood screws. Repeat this process to attach the other side rail to the headboard and footboard.

Step 4: Attach the plywood to the frame.

Place the plywood on top of the frame, and then clamp it in place. Drill pilot holes through the plywood and into the frame, and then drive in the 1-inch wood screws. Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the plywood.

Step 5: Sand and finish the frame.

Sand the frame smooth, and then apply paint or stain as desired. Allow the finish to dry completely before using the bed frame.

Congratulations! You've now built your own king-size bed frame. Enjoy!
