Wood Frame for Full Size Bed
A full-size bed, also known as a double bed, is a common choice for bedrooms due to its spacious sleeping surface that can comfortably accommodate one or two people. Building a wooden frame for a full-size bed is a relatively straightforward project that can be completed with basic woodworking skills. Materials Required:
- Pressure-treated 4x4 lumber (for the legs and side rails)
- Pressure-treated 2x6 lumber (for the headboard and footboard)
- 3/4-inch plywood (for the bed platform)
- Wood screws (3-inch and 2-inch)
- Sandpaper or sanding block
- Wood stain or paint (optional)
- Mattress and box spring (not included)

- Circular saw or miter saw
- Drill
- Countersink bit

Step 1: Cut the Lumber
Cut the following lumber pieces using a circular saw or miter saw:
- 4x4 legs: 4 pieces at 24 inches each
- 2x6 side rails: 2 pieces at 75 inches each
- 2x6 headboard: 1 piece at 59 inches (width of the bed)
- 2x6 footboard: 1 piece at 59 inches (width of the bed)
- 3/4-inch plywood: 1 piece at 54 inches x 75 inches (for the bed platform)
Step 2: Assemble the Side Rails
Join the side rails to the legs using 3-inch wood screws. Place a leg at each corner of the bed frame and align the side rails flush with the top of the legs. Secure the rails to the legs using two screws per joint, countersinking the screws below the surface of the wood.
Step 3: Attach the Headboard and Footboard
Position the headboard and footboard between the side rails and align them flush with the ends of the rails. Secure the headboard and footboard to the rails using 3-inch wood screws, again countersinking the screws. Ensure that the headboard and footboard are level before tightening the screws.
Step 4: Install the Bed Platform
Place the plywood sheet on top of the side rails, headboard, and footboard. Center the plywood and secure it to the frame using 2-inch wood screws spaced evenly around the perimeter. Countersink the screws slightly below the surface of the plywood.
Step 5: Sand and Finish (Optional)
Sand any rough edges or splinters on the frame using sandpaper or a sanding block. If desired, apply wood stain or paint to the frame to match your preferred décor. Allow the finish to dry completely before assembling the bed.
Step 6: Assemble the Bed
Place the mattress and box spring on top of the bed platform to complete the assembly. Ensure that the mattress fits snugly within the frame.

- Use pressure-treated lumber for the legs and side rails to prevent rot and moisture damage.
